One day programe

Course Objective: to provide participants with an introduction to the background, theory and practice relating to behavioural-based safety. Delegates will develop an understanding of the behavioural problem and the implications for practice and intervention. The overall focus is on developing an integrated and strategic response to what is a complex issue.

  • Understanding the behavioural problem - why do people engage in unsafe behaviour?
  • Human factors, behavioural / psychology theory
  • Safety leadership behaviour
  • Creating a positive and just culture
  • Influencing behaviour through observation, monitoring and coaching
  • Workforce involvement - developing ownership and tackling the behaviours that prove resistant to coaching
  • Performance management - using measurement of safety performance to motivate behaviour

A further two days are available for those who are ready to move ahead with the design and implementation of a behavioural strategy.
