NEBOSH
National General Certificate
Developing an Understanding of
Health & Safety
Ensuring ongoing health and safety improvements,
compliance with your safety policy and other external
requirements, is a key issue in any organisation. To fulfil
these obligations requires an understanding of the broad
issues relating to health and safety; including the legal
standards, management methods, workplace hazards and
controls, communications and consultation. Therefore
non-specialists must have a broad understanding of health
and safety requirements, management and methods. The NEBOSH
National General Certificate is an ideal course to fulfil
this critical business need.
An Overview of the NEBOSH National
General Certificate Qualification
The NEBOSH National General Certificate has established
itself as a leading award in basic health and safety, with
wellover 100,000 having earned it. It has been designed to
provide sound underpinning knowledge to enable
non-specialists to discharge their duties or functions in
workplace health and safety. Such people include, managers,
supervisors and employee representatives.
The Messam & Rider Approach
Taught with an exceptionally practical approach,
including many group exercises and continuous review and
revision, the Messam & Rider Ltd NEBOSH National General
Certificate programme, not only prepares the delegate for
the NEBOSH examination, but also equips them with the
necessary practical understanding and application to fulfil
their personal and workplace requirements. Our two week
block format is tried and tested, with 100% success rates
regularly achieved. The Messam & Rider Ltd. NEBOSH
National General Certificate Manual has been designed to
give the delegate practical reference material and a
complete revision pack for the examination.

the first 5 days and NGC2 covered in the latter 5 days of
each course. This allows for each unit to be studied and
examined individually, which means that you can attend the
first 5 days of a course and take the NGC1 examination and
return on a later course to study NGC2 and take that
examination. Providing you are succesful in both
examinations and in the Practical Application (see below)
within a 5 year period, you can achieve the NEBOSH National
General Certificate. Of course you can still study the
entire course in one sitting if you wish.
Paper NGC1 - The Management of Health
and Safety - 2 hours
Paper NGC2 - Controlling Workplace Hazards - 2
hours
The practical assessment (NGC3) is
carried out at the candidate's place of work on completion
of the NGC2 unit and must be submitted for assessment within
7 working days of the final examination.
