NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award

We are delighted to announce that Messam & Rider Ltd are accredited to run the NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award, the exciting new qualification which provides a sound foundation in health and safety. This course perfectly fills the gap in safety qualifications for operators and first line supervisors. Designed broadly around Level 2 in the national vocational framework, this qualification is largely equivalent to GCSE standard. The course is assessed by a one hour multiple choice examination and a workplace practical application. Currently available as an in-company option.

The HSW 1 outline course content is:

Day 1 - Health and Safety at Work

  • Foundations of health and safety
  • Responsibility for health and safety
  • Health and Safety Risk Assessment and Control

Day 2 - Health and Safety at Work

  • Hazards and controls associated with work equipment
  • Transport safety
  • Hazards and controls associated with electricity
  • Fire safety

Day 3 - Health and Safety at Work

  • Manual handling and repetitive movement
  • Hazards and controls associated with hazardous substances
  • The working environment

HSW2 is the practical element which involves a workplace risk assessment which should take around 90mins. The multiple choice examination can be provided at the end of day 3, and the practical completed within 7 days in the candidate's own workplace. Alternatively the course can run over 4 days with the fourth day set aside for revision, the multiple choice examination and the practical application. Both options can be taken in block or day release formats.
